4th and Barelas is a Homewise redevelopment project in the heart of Albuquerque's Barelas neighborhood. Located at the corner of 4th Street and Barelas Road, this iconic commercial property holds a rich history as a center for creativity and food exploration. Rooted in a respect for the neighborhood's history and the expressed needs of its residents, our approach to this project was guided by extensive community engagement and collaboration. In 2020, Homewise conducted a neighborhood-wide survey to understand the needs of the community which led to the creation of Barelas Community Kitchen and affordable commercial rental opportunities to help foster economic development while preserving the area's unique identity and heritage.
